19/08/2003 > From the Clio to the Xsara... Simon to join Citroën Sport in 2004 Current French Super 1600 Rally Championship leader thanks to three wins from five rounds, Simon Jean-Joseph is also in excellent form on the world scene where he has secured three successive Class A6 wins from the first four events of 2003. Competing within the framework of a factory team at the wheel of the competitive and reliable Clio Super 1600 Renault Sport, Simon Jean-Joseph has revealed the full range of strengths that prompted his recruitment at the start of the season, namely his speed, reliability, maturity and passion. The FIA\'s decision of June 25, 2003 concerning the eligibility of WRC teams\' third drivers has had the effect of reshuffling the cards in the sport\'s premier series and opened up fresh opportunities for drivers affected by this new regulation, including Simon who will move to Citroën Sport for a WRC programme in 2004. Meanwhile, along with Brice Tirabassi, Simon will continue to lead Renault Sport\'s bid to secure the 2003 French Super 1600 title. Clio Super 1600 Renault Sport development driver in 2002 and this year a member of the Renault Sport Clio Team, the provisional French Super 1600 Rally Championship leader Simon Jean-Joseph will move to Citroën Sport for a WRC programme in 2004. With three wins in the French Championship to his name this season (Lyon-Charbonnières, Terre d’Auxerrois and Alsace-Vosges) and four consecutive Class A6 wins in the World Championship (2002 Rally Great Britain, plus this year\'s Monte Carlo, Turkey and Acropolis Rallies), Simon Jean-Joseph has given everyone – including his rivals – an eloquent display of his speed and all-round skills at the wheel of a very competitive machine, the Clio Super 1600 Renault Sport. Said Bernard OLLIVIER, General Manager of Renault Sport Technologies: \"Apart from the disappointment of seeing such a talented driver leave the Clio Team, I am obviously very proud of Renault Sport\'s contribution to Simon\'s return to the WRC limelight. At the wheel of his Clio Super 1600, which has proved both quick and reliable over all types of terrain, Simon has shown we were right to have confidence in him before the others.\" The 2003 French Rally Championship title is far from in the bag however and this remains at the forefront of Simon Jean-Joseph\'s mind as the season enters its final phase… \"My move will in no way affect my determination – with the support of Brice – to win the French Super 1600 title for Renault Sport and its partners. Renault\'s return to rallying is effectively a challenge I have taken very much to heart. Since the start of 2002, my commitment has been 100% and I intend to continue giving it everything I\'ve got right up to the final stage of the season to achieve this objective.\" The next round of the French Super 1600 Rally Championship is the Rallye des Cardabelles (September 19-21).
